On Saturday, Team WA athletes took part in a Road Safety Masterclass, generously supported by SportWest and the Road Safety Commission, with a focus on promoting safer roads for everyone.
The morning combined practical cycling skills with road safety education, beginning with a hands-on session led by expert coaches. Athletes worked on building confidence and developing key group riding skills in a safe and supportive environment. This was followed by an educational presentation from the Driver Risk Management Centre, covering road-sharing awareness, responsible decision-making, and strategies for staying safe while riding on public roads.
The session concluded with a lucky prize draw, with every athlete taking home a prize. Thanks to the support of Cycliq and R&D Cycles, prizes included six Fly6 Pro Camera Lights, front and rear bike light sets, water bottles, and bike kit-friendly first aid kits.
Cycling safety is a critical topic for Team WA athletes, and education around sharing the road is particularly valuable for young athletes who are not yet driving or are new to the road. Triathlon WA is incredibly grateful to Sport West and the Road Safety Commission for making this session possible, as well as Cycliq for their generous support in helping our athletes stay safer while training and racing on the road.
