Insurance for Triathlon WA Members
Triathlon WA participates in AusTriathlon’s national insurance program, arranged through the broker V‑Insurance. The program is designed to protect our community, athletes, technical officials, clubs, accredited coaches, volunteers and sanctioned race directors, during triathlon training and racing at AusTriathlon‑sanctioned activities.
V-Insurance’s role is to assist all members with their individual Insurance program if you ever needed it.
Please note that all claims are dealt with directly with V-Insurance and AusTriathlon. Triathlon WA is not advised if any WA members make a claim. Please reach out directly if you require any assistance, or feedback from an accident within the community that we can assist further with via email admin@wa.triathlon.org.au.

Core covers available within the program include:
- Public & Products Liability and Professional Indemnity
- Personal Accident (benefits for injuries sustained in sanctioned activities; inclusion and level depend on your membership tier)
- Association/Management Liability (Directors & Officers)
- Cyber Liability & Privacy Protection (for clubs)
- Travel (optional add‑on for authorised travel)
What counts as “covered training/racing”?
Training means triathlon‑related swim, bike, run activity. Commuting by bike is not considered training, and events that are not AusTriathlon‑sanctioned are out of scope.
What’s included for each group in our sport?
Explore the benefits and resources tailored to every demographic within triathlon. Whether you’re an athlete, coach, technical official, club, or race director, we’ve outlined what’s available to support your journey and involvement in the sport.
Members
At Triathlon WA, we prioritise safety for all members. While we encourage everyone to take precautions, accidents can and do happen. That’s why all members are covered by Personal Accident Insurance.
Your level of membership determines the extent of your cover, but all policies include protection for injuries sustained while participating in insured triathlon activities.
This policy operates on a reimbursement basis, meaning you can claim for any costs not covered by Medicare.
Due to Government legislation, insurers cannot cover Medicare-related expenses, including the Medicare Gap. The most common “Non-Medicare” expenses include:
- Dental
- Private Hospital Bed & Theatre Fees
- Ambulance
- Chiropractic
- Physiotherapy
- Osteopathy
Please note: Personal Accident Insurance DOES NOT cover damage to equipment such as bikes, helmets, or accessories. Because every athlete’s gear is unique, we recommend arranging separate insurance for your equipment if desired.
Public Liability Insurance: Public Liability insurance is cover that protects a member if they cause an accident that injures or damages someone else and/or someone else’s property. This only applies if the member is legally responsible for the accident.
If a claim for damage is successfully made against you, an excess will be payable to the insurer. Compensation to the person pursuing the claim is paid from the insurer, not the member.

Your entitlements depend on your AusTriathlon membership tier which can be found within the Insurance Summary PDF on the Insurance Hub.
- One Day Licence (ODL): Event‑only public liability cover during the sanctioned event. Personal accident cover is limited to participation in that event.
- Social: Public liability cover for official club social activities and volunteer duties ONLY; no racing and no training personal accident cover.
- Basic: Public liability and limited Personal Accident for training only (24/7 in Australia toward a triathlon goal); racing is not covered. When participating in sanctioned races, these members will need to purchase a One Day Licence to provide coverage for that event.
- Standard / Premium / Pro: Public liability and Personal Accident for training and racing at AusTriathlon‑sanctioned events, including direct travel to/from. (Benefits increase with higher tiers.)
Technical Officials
AusTriathlon‑accredited Technical Officials are covered by the program while officiating sanctioned events, provided membership and credentials are current. Coverage includes public liability, professional indemnity and personal accident (as non‑competing officials).
Personal Accident and Public Liability cover is reflected in the individual membership tier. Please refer to Member Insurance for a breakdown in scope.
Clubs (Affiliated)
Affiliated clubs access Public & Products Liability, Professional Indemnity, Management (Directors & Officers) Liability and Cyber Liability. Personal Accident applies to volunteers, committee members and officials participating in club activities. Certificates of Currency are issued every season to satisfy venue/council requirements, these can be found on the club’s JustGo profile.
Coaches (Accredited)
AusTriathlon‑accredited coaches are protected by Public Liability, Professional Indemnity and Personal Accident while coaching within their accreditation scope. To access this cover, you must hold current AusTriathlon accreditation; V‑Insurance provides a summary of cover for coaches. All accredited coaches will also have active First Aid, CPR and Working with Children Checks.
Race Directors/ Event Organisers
Sanctioned race directors and event promoters are covered under Public Liability and Professional Indemnity sections only. To access these, your event must be AusTriathlon‑sanctioned.
How to Make a Claim
1. Record the incident (date, location, activity, witnesses).
2. Complete the relevant incident report/claim form via the V‑Insurance hub.
3. Provide supporting documents (medical reports, receipts, event sanctioning details).
4. Submit promptly to ensure timely assessment. You can start the claim process prior to completing all treatment payments. It is encouraged to start the claim process as soon as possible to open a case, you will then be provided a representative who will assist in the process.
Important Notes
- Coverage applies only within the scope defined (membership tier, accreditation, sanctioned activity). Always verify event sanctioning and your current status.
- Public Liability via AusTriathlon membership is available to Australian citizens/permanent residents; certain non‑resident scenarios are excluded.
- This page is a summary; it does not replace the policy wording. For specific questions or certificates, contact V‑Insurance directly.
