Guy Crawford (Fremantle Tri Club) and Felicity Sheedy-Ryan (UWA Tri Club) were crowned the WA Aquathlon champions on Saturday morning at Mullaloo Beach. Presented by XTR Multi Sports, the long-awaited return of the Joondalup Autumn Classic saw flat, calm conditions for a great day of racing.

The Open Womens event saw Sheedy-Ryan take out the top spot by less than a minute over young gun, Madison Toovey (North Coast Tri Club). Sheedy-Ryan’s early lead in the first run leg was one neither Toovey or third placed Brooke McCoy (Fremantle Tri Club) could make back in the swim or second run.

Post race, Sheedy-Ryan said “I’m not sure where my next race will be, so I just enjoyed being outside and part of this local tri community race today.”

The Men’s Open saw an epic battle between Crawford and Rahul Jegatheva (North Coast Tri Club/UWA Tri Club). Fresh off his silver overall and gold in the 19 & Unders age category at the MetaSprint Series Aquathlon in Singapore, 18-year-old Rahul was in fine form but it wasn’t enough to take the win. Heading into the final run leg, only 10 seconds separated Crawford and Rahul, but Crawford dug in to finish 32 seconds ahead of Rahul. Third-places Aaron Houghton’s final leg may have been quicker than Rahul’s, but it wasn’t enough to work back the 2 minute 20 second difference Rahul established in the swim.
